Mart Chosen for Texas Youth Commission Detention Facility

MART, Texas (KWTX) - On November 20, 1997, the city of Mart was selected as the site for a Texas Youth Commission Detention Facility, which provided services to delinquent youths through programs of constructive training for rehabilitation.
The decision to establish these facilities was made by the Texas Youth Development Council, and from their inception in the 50s to the 70s, they began to open several of these facilities.
One of the first was the Gatesville School for Boys.
