WACO, Texas (KWTX) - On December 4, 1945, the United States Senate approved the “United Nations Participation Act”, allowing the U.S. to become a member of an international governing body for the first time.

The UN was founded in October of that same year to protect human rights and enforce international law following World War II.

Today, the United Nations has 193 member countries, with the state of Texas playing a key role in the organization’s humanitarian efforts.

Both the Port of Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport are often used to transport emergency supplies across the globe.
