WACO, Texas (KWTX) - On December 9, 1997, Caterpillar Inc. revealed plans to open a facility in Waco.
The project had a price tag of $15 million and called for a 128,000-square-foot plant.
The company wanted a strategic location where it could produce articulated trucks for customers across North, Central, and South America.
The plant became fully operational in 2002.
Since then, the company has invested $52 million in expanding and outfitting facilities along Texas Central Parkway, where workers build excavation buckets for digging machines and large hammers for surface blasting.
