WACO, Texas (KWTX) - On December 14, 1989, McLennan County reached a major milestone in public safety.

That day, the county officially launched its new emergency service online.

This shift enabled the county to establish a fully functional emergency response system, supported by technology, software, and coordinated communication among agencies.

Before then, county leaders say residents had to call the local telephone number for the agency needed or 911 during an emergency.

The launch marked the county’s first step in modern technology, with a major upgrade that set the foundation for the advanced 911 services the public relies on today.
