Degrees of Science: Cardiac Care for Orangutans

(KWTX) -Cardiac Disease is one of the leading causes of death for Orangutans in managed care. Cameron Park Zoo in Waco is leading the way in developing new trainings for Orangutans that will help zoo staff catch cardiac disease in Orangutans earlier. The staff at Cameron Park Zoo had to develop new trainings to allow staff to take X-rays, blood pressure readings, EKGs, and blood draws from the Orangutans. Emily Ellison, a trainer at Cameron Park Zoo, shows us how these trainings were developed.
