Weird and Wacky Weather to Start 2026
We’ve got a very active start to 2026 in the weather department. We broke another high temperature record today, things will cool off for the weekend but then the heat comes right back early next week, and then things go haywire for the back half of next week as two separate storm systems could bring us some heavy rainfall.
A weak cold front will move through Central Texas tonight and bring our temperatures down a bit for the weekend. It will still be warm, but highs will be near 70° instead of the insane 80°+ temperatures that we have seen a few times recently. Lots of sunshine will hang around as well into the beginning of next week, and a shift in the winds will bring us back close to 80° by Tuesday.
Starting Wednesday things start to get… interesting. A surface low pressure will move across Oklahoma and Kansas and its trailing cold front looks to bring us some rain and thunder. But forecast models do not agree at all about what happens next. Some keep the cold front to our north where it stalls until another low pressure forms along it over that weekend and gives us a potentially stronger second round of storms, and some have the cold front slowly pushing through on Friday with nothing happening over the weekend. It will take a few days to get a better picture of what will happen with these storms, but what is almost certain is that we will see some rain sometime during the second half of next week.
