MEXIA, Texas - This Be Remarkable takes us out to Mexia where we had the pleasure to meet Lana Gore.

A woman who has always been active in the community had a thought one day about how she can support those who are struggling.

“I was like, well, what can I do more for my community? So, I put out a Facebook post and I said, hey, if anybody would be willing to, would you assist me in starting a support group for people in our area that have trauma, depression, or anxiety?” Lana Gore, Be Remarkable Winner.

After she put that idea out she was surprised by the feedback that she received, and that is when she came up with the name of the group “I will sit with you in the dark.”

“A lot of people, they don’t want to admit that they’ve got depression, anxiety or even dealing with traumas from their past. and that comes from the stigma of you should be ashamed for that. And so our group, really opens up the light where you don’t have to be ashamed because so many other people are feeling those exact same ways,” Gore said.

Her ability to provide a much needed support group is why she was rewarded with a $500 dollar check thanks to Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers as a Be Remarkable recipient.

Her constant care is why she was nominated by Elaine Schulte as Lana and the board are trying to raise money for a scholarship to help less fortunate individuals.

The group meets every Sunday at 4 pm at 605 N MLK Jr Hwy in Mexia allowing people to share stories or listen and feel the support. You can find more information at https://www.iwillsitwithyou.com/
