HILL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - Multiple Volunteer Fire Departments and Hill County Officials responded to a fast-moving grass fire yesterday evening. First reports came in around 6:30 p.m., with the fire initially described as small. Strong winds of more than 30 mph quickly spread the fire to about six acres.

Fire crews contained the fire by 7:13 p.m. and declared it fully out by 7:33 p.m. Firefighters remained on the scene until 9 p.m., extinguishing hotspots that flared up due to gusty winds.

Officials said the fire was completely avoidable and urged residents to be careful during dry, windy conditions. They remind the public to avoid using fireworks, dragging tow chains, or tossing lit cigarettes.
