FREESTONE COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - The Freestone County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after he broke into a home, took a shower and tried to take a nap on the couch.

On Wednesday morning, December 10, around 5:00 a.m., authorities were sent to a burglary in progress on West Hwy 84 between Teague and Mexia.

Deputies say a man was found by the homeowners inside the home and he was attempting to sleep on the couch.

Authorities say “it turned into a bad dream for this fella when one of the homeowners was an ex-Peace Officer.”

The man was cuffed on the floor and held at gunpoint until units arrived on scene, according to authorities.

Authorities say the man had taken a shower before trying to catch a nap on the couch.

“This subject is extremely lucky he ran into an individual that showed great restraint… no doubt probably due to his previous law enforcement training," the FCSO said.

The man was arrested for burglary of habitation and sent to the Freestone County Jail.

“It’s also important for our citizens to know that this is not a subject that is involved in the vehicle burglaries around the county. This is another reminder to be sure to lock up and keep yourself and your property safe,” authorities say.
