KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) — A Killeen man is accused of kidnapping a 2-year-old child after breaking into a home where the child was being babysat, according to a police affidavit.

Killeen Police Department officers responded to a 911 call about a kidnapping on Oct. 11, 2025, in Killeen.

Officers met with a babysitter who was watching children for two women.

The babysitter told police that Audrea McCuin broke into the house through the back door and wanted to see one of the women, who wasn’t home at the time, the affidavit alleges.

The babysitter said McCuin appeared very drunk when he picked up a 2-year-old boy and took him from the house. McCuin has no family connection to the child, police confirmed.

The babysitter told police she tried to stop McCuin from taking the child, but he slammed her hand in the car door, hurting her, according to the affidavit. She then called police to report the incident.

According to the affidavit, while the babysitter was on the phone with 911, McCuin came back to the house. When he saw that she was on the phone, he stopped her from talking to 911 and broke her cell phone before leaving again.

The babysitter said she saw McCuin drive away with the child.

Police said the child was in immediate danger and got permission to track McCuin’s cell phone. The tracking led officers to the area around 6207 Brushy Trail Drive in Killeen, where an officer saw the car parked.

A KPD officer walked up to the parked car and saw no driver, but found the child asleep in the passenger seat, according to the affidavit. There was no car seat in the car and the child had been riding completely without any safety restraints, police confirmed.

According to the affidavit, officers then took the child to safety and took the car. They searched the nearby house for McCuin, who had already left the area.

Police said they got camera footage from the homeowner around Brushy Creek Drive, which showed McCuin get out of the car without the child. The footage also showed him talking on his phone with a KPD sergeant.

During the phone call, McCuin told the sergeant he had just woken up at 113 Ken Drive and wasn’t involved with the kidnapping, police said. But officers determined this was a lie, since McCuin was at the Brushy Creek Trail location while he was making the statement.

The next day, McCuin sent text messages to the child’s mother saying he was sorry for what he did, according to the affidavit. He said he was so drunk he could barely remember anything and said he knew the child was in the truck the whole time.

The child was checked by paramedics and his mother after what happened. The 2-year-old’s face, right arm and chest had scratches that weren’t there when his mother had last seen and bathed the child earlier that evening, police said. The scratches looked like they were made by fingernails, the affidavit alleges.

McCuin was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony.
