SALADO, Texas (KWTX) — Bell County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help identifying a package thief who was caught on camera stealing from a home near Salado.

The theft happened on Dec. 3, 2025, at about 9:30 a.m. on Rose Lane, just outside Salado, according to the sheriff’s office.

A Ring camera caught a Black man in a white car stealing a package from the driveway, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

The sheriff’s office said package thefts happen a lot this time of year as thieves go after Christmas packages.

People with information can call the Bell County Sheriff’s Office at 254-933-5412 or Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477.

What happens if you get caught

The sheriff’s office also reminded people thinking about stealing packages that Texas has tough penalties.

Stealing from fewer than 10 homes is a Class A misdemeanor, which means up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

Stealing from 10 to 29 homes is a state jail felony, which means 180 days to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

Stealing from 30 or more homes is a third-degree felony, which means two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, the sheriff’s office said.
