Affidavit: Waco mom charged after four children, including baby, suffered from malnutrition and required hospitalization
Mother believed her children “were just small for their ages,” court document states
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A local mother was charged after her four children suffered from malnutrition and, ultimately, required hospitalization.
Rakera Williams, 24, is charged with abandoning or endangering a child, a state jail felony, according to online records.
Police allege Williams “intentionally, knowingly, or with criminal negligence place her four children under circumstances that exposed the children to unreasonable risk of harm.”

The ages of the children at the time of the offense in late September were 4, 3 and 2 years old. A fourth victim was only two months old, police said.
According to the affidavit, the children were diagnosed with constipation, failure to thrive, various degrees of malnutrition and other ailments that required hospitalization.
Police said the children responded well to treatment and were placed in the care of other individuals.
During a police interview, Williams “admitted that it was ultimately her responsibility to make sure that her children were taken care of,” the affidavit states.
Furthermore, Williams admitted to police that she did not take the two-month-old baby for checkups like she was ordered to, the document states.
Williams, police wrote in the affidavit, “claimed she had no idea her children were suffering from failure to thrive. She believed they were just small for their ages.”
