MARLIN, Texas (KWTX) - A habitual criminal from Falls County was sentenced to life in prison Thursday in the sexual abuse of a young family member in 2023.

A Falls County jury in 82nd State District Court deliberated about an hour before deciding to send Milton Lee Cosby, 63, to prison for the rest of his life.

The jury deliberated about 30 minutes before convicting the former Mart resident in the aggravated sexual assault of an 11-year-old family member who lived with Cosby and his wife at their home in Otto, just south of Mart.

The girl reported the abuse to her mother in Waco, and Waco police notified Falls County officials after learning the assault occurred in Otto.

Cosby was convicted as a habitual criminal after Falls County District Attorney Jody Gilliam and Assistant DA Joshua Griffin proved Cosby had at least two prior felony convictions for aggravated assault on a peace officer and retaliation.

Cosby’s attorney, Hoagie Karels, declined comment after the three-day trial because he said the case will be appealed.

Cosby must serve at least 30 years in prison before he can seek parole.
