JASPER COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A contract nurse at the Jasper County Jail has been placed behind bars after being accused of smuggling cellphones to inmates.

Amanda Finch, 39, of Kirbyville, is charged with the third-degree felony of having a prohibited item in a correctional facility.

The investigation began Sunday when Sheriff Chuck Havard was told of the “illegal contraband” being brought into the jail, according to a release from the sheriff.

A search began, and a cellphone was found inside. Further investigation found Finch had smuggled several phones for inmates on several occasions, Havard said.

Finch was arrested Monday and booked into the Jasper County Jail.

“I want to commend our investigators for moving at warp speed, and placing this individual in our jail,” Havard said in the release. “Anytime someone jeopardizes the safety and security of our facility, we will deal with them in a quick and swift manner.”
