KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) — A 20-year-old woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing into a home early New Year’s Day.

Officers responded to the area of Rosewood Drive and Bronze Drive around 12:16 a.m. Thursday for a single-vehicle crash, according to the Killeen Police Department. The Traffic Unit was working a New Year’s Eve DWI enforcement detail when the crash occurred.

A black Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway near Lightning Rock Trail, crossed Bronze Drive and struck the side of a residence, police said. The vehicle went through a privacy fence and rolled over before stopping along Rosewood Drive just south of Bronze Drive.

The driver initially left the scene but returned shortly after. No other injuries were reported.

During the investigation, officers determined the driver was intoxicated and arrested her for driving while intoxicated. She was taken to the Killeen City Jail.

Amaiyah Angela Dawson, 20, was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Cliff Coleman, who set her bond at $3,000. She was taken to the Bell County Jail and later released after posting bond.

The crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Unit.
