(KWTX) - Not only is Congressman Pete Sessions ready to reopen the government, he’s looking at what needs to be done to hopefully avoid this in the future.

Rep. Sessions said the bill has been sent to the United States House of Representatives.

Rules require for 48 hours it sit so members can see the bill to know what they’re voting on. Now, we await Speaker Mike Johnson to announce the time for the final vote.

Rep. Sessions told KWTX he plans to head to Washington D.C. Wednesday morning and vote ‘yes’.

However, he’s planning ahead as for what steps need to be taken to avoid future shutdowns.

“I would say that we’ve got to look ahead because this takes us well into January, but we could be at the same circumstance back in January unless we have learned our lesson and that is we need to be for fixed not fight,” Rep. Sessions said.

He’s optimistic the bill will pass - then President Donald Trump is expected to sign it.

After that, the shutdown would end.
