Douglas Subaru donates 5k to Kendrick Elementary School teachers
WACO, Texas – Douglas Subaru held a back-to-school celebration at Kendrick Elementary School on Wednesday, August 21, where they surprised teachers with a $5,000 donation to go towards school supplies.
Douglas Subaru is ‘adopting’ 10 classrooms at the school this year. Teachers in the ‘adopted’ classrooms will each receive $500 that can be used on school supplies at adoptaclassroom.org. This donation will benefit more than 250 students.
This is part of the Subaru Loves Learning Program which is a partnership with adoptaclassroom.org that provides funding for school supplies to teachers across the country.
On average, public-school teachers spend $800 per year of their own money on school supplies to help meet the needs to students in their classrooms. This program helps lighten the load for teachers like Krisol Villa Flores, a second-grade bilingual teacher at Kendrick Elementary and one of the teachers whose classroom was adopted.
“Whenever they mentioned my name, I was very excited,” Villa Flores said. “We have a lot of needs in the classroom. We have kids that can’t always afford to buy all the school supplies and sometimes we teachers end up buying some of that. It’s going to be really helpful for the class and for the students so I’m very thankful.”
This is the second year that Douglas Subaru has adopted classrooms at Waco ISD.
