15 years later, construction of Fort Hood barracks continues
FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) - It has been a long road to improving barrack living for single soldiers on Fort Hood.
Fort Hood has been updating their barracks for more than a decade and the project is still going.
“Close to 15 years,” said Brian Dosa, Dir. Public Works on Fort Hood. “As you may know, we have 100 barracks on post. That includes one that was built relatively recently.”
A brand new barracks that opened last year.
That said, there are still some that are unusable.
“We have 2 Hammerhead barracks over on the east side that are Q4 barracks, that are frankly not being used right now,” said Dosa. “They’re in pretty bad shape. They’re currently in line to be renovated and then we have one over on west fort that is currently in line to be renovated as well.”
Even with all the progress made on renovations and new construction, they still have a major issue.
“We don’t have quite enough barracks,” said Dosa. “So, we have some situations, particularly in our Rolling Pins and our VOLAR barracks, where soldiers are doubled up and it’s quite tight.”
It’s a problem they hope to help alleviate as the work continues with more renovations and the construction of more new barracks.
Two new barracks projects are already underway.
Fort Hood officials tell KWTX they have also made significant progress in renovating and constructing new family housing on post.
