BELLMEAD, Texas (KWTX) - Alice January has run Alice’s Beauty Shop off of Bellmead Drive since she was 18, and now she’s ready to retire and start fresh.

In 1978, January opened her hair shop, ready to serve new clients in the Bellmead community.

“We did haircuts, perms, highlights, colors... just a little bit of everything,” January said.

After four decades, she’s saying goodbye.

Her husband Steve January, a chief deputy for the McLennan County Sheriff’s office, passed way due to pancreatic cancer two years ago.

Now, she is ready to go out and start a new adventure.

January says she decided to retire and put the building on the market in April, but says she is grateful for the connections she made with her clients.

“First three years was building a good clientele, after that it was just simple, I was blessed over and over again by good people,” January said.

From one Bellmead entrepreneur to another, the building has now been bought by The Agents of Texas Real Estate Brokerage.

Owner Cameron Gomez says they are excited for the new opportunity and hopes to honor the building and January’s legacy.

“She’s been around doing her thing for quite a while, and I’m excited to take over and fill the shoes that she is leaving for the community and the area and she’s always going to be welcome back in,” Gomez said.

January says she will still be doing hair at her home or will go to her clients to help them out.

The Agents of Texas are expecting to be settled into the new building by spring.
