ROBINSON, Texas (KWTX)— Emergency responders extracted an injured driver from a vehicle Saturday on Interstate 35 after a major motor vehicle accident, according to the Robinson Volunteer Fire Department.

The department responded to the crash at 4:21 p.m. on December 27, officials confirmed. One patient required extrication using hydraulic rescue tools before being transported to a hospital by AMR Waco for treatment, authorities reported.

According to the department, multiple vehicles attempted to drive through the emergency area and crossed the grass median to bypass traffic, while crews worked the scene.

According to authorities, Robinson Police Department officers stopped many of the drivers and issued citations for the behavior.

The fire department said the actions created additional hazards for first responders, the patient and other motorists.

Officials reminds drivers to slow down, stay off phones, follow traffic control devices and give responders space when approaching emergency scenes.
