WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Waco Transit System announced the return of its annual Safe Ride Home program, offering free rides to and from New Year’s Eve destinations for people who might otherwise drive under the influence.

The program reflects WTS’s commitment to ensuring street safety during New Year’s Eve, according to the transit system.

In partnership with Tow King, Safe Ride Home includes free vehicle tows for those needing safe transportation. The service ensures both passengers and their vehicles can arrive home safely.

“Our goal is simple… to keep the streets of Waco safe on New Year’s Eve,” WTS said in a statement. “If even one life is spared because someone chose to secure a safe ride home, then our purpose was accomplished. We have vehicles available and drivers willing to give up their holiday to serve the community.”

The program has become a trusted resource for Waco residents through contributions from Subway and Chuy’s, according to WTS.
