Central Texas softball star staying true to her roots with first coaching gig after graduation
BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - An area high school and later Baylor softball star is keeping her roots in Central Texas accepting a job as a softball coach at UMHB in Belton.
Ashlyn Wachtendorf is a 2021 Lorena High School graduate and 2025 Baylor grad.
She had huge success on the field as an outfielder at both places and is thrilled to have been named assistant coach at University of Mary Hardin Baylor.

“I have loved it so far,” Wachtendorf said. “It’s only been a week, but it’s been nothing short of amazing.”
Wachtendorf was a four-year varsity letterman at Lorena. She is a four-time Super Centex player, four-time All-District player and received Newcomer of the Year in 2018. She was also Offensive Player of the Year and All-State Honoree.
Wachtendorf competed at Baylor from 2021-2025 where she was named Academic Champion in 2023.
She graduated earlier this year with a degree in Kinesiology.

Wachtendorf competed for much of her select career with the Buzz softball organization and with her new job is now coaching alongside former Baylor softball player Melissa Mojica.
“She played at Baylor and she was coached by coach Glenn Moore, my college coach and one I love him and respect him so much so I just knew that someone that respected him and played for him the same that I did, that was just something I was looking forward to and now after a week of being there Coach Mojica is just awesome,” Wachtendorf said. “I’ve learned so much already.”
“I am excited to add Ashlyn to our coaching staff,” Coach Mojica said. “She brings a great deal of knowledge and energy to the program. Her commitment and passion for softball will help our program excel. I am looking forward to working with her and winning championships!”
The Cru softball team started fall ball this past week and Ashlyn said she’s excited for the days ahead.
“I’m really really excited for spring ball to come,” Wachtendorf said.
“I’m really looking forward to the memories and the games we win.”
