BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - A local education foundation that’s already doled out nearly $3-million in student scholarships and hundreds of thousands of dollars to teachers and classrooms is gearing up for its biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Belton Education Foundation will host its annual Red Carpet Event Casino Night in October in Temple.

Beran Luce is the foundation’s secretary and is chairing this year’s fundraiser.

“Last year our red-carpet event brought in $168,000 and we were so excited with that number,” Luce said. “Our community is so generous.”

The Belton Education Foundation was founded in 1992 and since that time the community-based nonprofit has awarded 400 grants to teachers and campuses to the tune of $750,000.

They’ve also doled out nearly three million dollars to 2,700 graduating seniors.

Last year alone , around $365,000 was awarded in student scholarships and $125,000 went toward teacher grants.

Those grants included everything from robotics kids in classrooms to cooking supplies for life skills classes.

Allix Jackson is the vice president of events for the foundation.

She said as a former teacher she knows the needs are great.

“That’s where my passion came from,” Jackson said. " I was a teacher, and I love that teachers if they have a great idea, they can submit a very short grant application and we’re able to go fund those ideas to bring innovation to the classroom without it coming out of our pockets."

The Red-Carpet Event Casino Night will take place Saturday, October 18 at Bold Republic Brewing Company in Temple.

Tickets are still available, and organizers are still in need of silent and audible auction items.
