Park Hill Elementary students, parents and teachers participate in National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Hundreds of local people, including students and their families, walked, biked or rolled to school on Oct. 8 as part of a national movement to promote safe transportation, getting active and community.
National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day was held nationally at 2,700 locations in 46 states.
This year, and for the first time, that included Park Hill Elementary School in the Midway Independent School District.

Around 300 people gathered at the corners of Park Place & Richie Road and Pallasite Drive and Richie Road at 7 a.m. to travel to school together with some on foot, some on bikes, scooters and skateboards and others in wheelchairs.
Jennifer Weaver is the vice president of program with the Park Hill Elementary PTA which hosted the event.
“We are very happy with the turnout,” Weaver said. “It was an amazing turnout. We had hundreds of kids, and it was really amazing.”

The Hewitt and Midway Police Departments were both on hand to pass out stickers and safety information about getting to school each morning.
Chelsea Lippe is the principal at Park Hill Elementary and said she was thrilled with the response.
“This is not even probably a quarter of bikers and walkers we had this morning on National Walk or Roll to school today,” Lippe said referring to the large group behind her. “We are so excited to have the support of the community of families that make it safe all the time and teach their kids about how to walk or bike or scooter to school safely.”
Park Hill hopes to make this an annual event.
