Central Texas athletes gather at football fields for ‘Fields of Faith’ event
KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - Hundreds of Central Texas athletes gathered at football fields across the area for the annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Fields of Faith event.
Fields of Faith is a time for junior high and high school student athletes to come together at sport environments in their communities to challenge their peers to read the Bible daily and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.
Events were held Wednesday evening at Kerens and Killeen ISD’s.
There was also a gathering of more than 150 athletes from Crawford, McGregor and Moody at Crawford’s football stadium.
That event included a local band leading worship and students reading scripture as well as sharing their testimonies.
Crawford student Ava Johnson left encouraged.
“I was really encouraged by the worship we had tonight and everyone that joined in and just praised the Lord,” Johnson said.
Fellow classmate Payton Lewis echoed in those feelings.
“I love how people gave their life to Jesus tonight and that all of them heard the message of Jesus and wanted to get to know him better,” Lewis said.
The guest speaker in Crawford was former NBA player Adrian Branch.
Branch won a world championship with the Lakers in 1987.
Student Ethan Rogers was touched by Branch’s words.
“He came down and talked about the right crowd and choosing who your people are,” Rogers said.
Camryn Powers, of Crawford, also enjoyed his speech.
“I liked when our guest speaker gave us the ABC’s which stand for admit, believe and confess,” she said.
McGregor student Jaydyn Austin said seeing everyone come together was uplifting.
“It meant a lot to me to see a whole bunch of people worshiping God all together and coming together in unison and seeing how many schools and how many people from other schools believe what we do,” Austin said.
China Spring will host a Fields of Faith event coming up on October 22nd. Schools there will include China Spring, Bosqueville and Valley Mills.
