WACO, Texas (KWTX) - It was a record-breaking event in more ways than one for Fuzzy Friends Animal Rescue as they hosted a Seinfeld star for an annual fundraiser.

Actor John O’Hurley, who played the eccentric J. Peterman on the hit NBC sitcom, was the featured speaker for the Guardian Angel Society’s Champaign Brunch at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco.

Peterman’s appearance, coupled with the gathering of very generous donors, left the nonprofit with a record-breaking event.

Sam Brown is the executive director of Fuzzy Friends.

“It was a huge success, and we set two new records for Fuzzy Friends,” Brown said.

The first record was the amount of people who attended. 145 ladies who have joined the Guardian Angel Society were on hand.

The Guardian Angel Society was started by just a handful of women in 2020 and has grown every year since.

They raise funds to make sure medical care from routine vet visits to life-saving surgeries are available for homeless dogs and cats at the no-kill shelter.

“Whenever you go to the vet, you know how much it can cost to do something for an animal,” event co-chair Debbie Luce said. “Fuzzy Friends will go all out to save an animal.”

The second record was the amount of money raised.

“We raised $180,000 and that is strictly through the generosities of those ladies and the businesses that wanted to be a part of it,” Brown said.

Fuzzy Friends would like to thank KWTX for being a close partner to Fuzzy Friends and Parson’s Roofing for stepping up as the event’s presenting sponsor.
