CHINA SPRING, Texas (KWTX) - A local volleyball team that had a run in the playoffs, which ended this week, has something else to celebrate; every single player made the Academic All-District team.

China Spring had all 11 varsity girls and managers earn a spot on the District 23-4A Academic All-District team.

That means the players had to maintain a 92 average throughout the entire season.

First-year China Spring Head Coach Leslie Coltrain said she couldn’t be prouder.

“At China Spring ISD, we have a pretty high standard of academic excellence, and I would say that our 2025 varsity volleyball team upheld that standard very well,” Coltrain said.

Coltrain said maintaining grades can be even more challenging for players who miss class time and downtime for games and practice.

Her players, she said, would have to go the extra mile.

“For this group of girls who started school August 4th and then immediately started playing scrimmages that weekend and were out for three weekends in a row for playing tournaments, they still were able to maintain their grades and have that 92 average,” Coltrain said. “Lots of study halls on the road, but they were really dedicated and showed their determination to excel both in the classroom and on the court.”

The Academic All-District team from China Spring included players Kyndall Allen, Janey Baker, Jo Bohannon, Taryn Crouch, Caitlyn Gerick, Reese Jenkins, Sophia Louge, Marielle Muramoto, Meredith Muramoto, Claire Penney and Layla Schaeper.

Managers London Leatham and Tennyson Leatham also made the team.

China Spring Volleyball had a successful season, ending it as Bi-District champs before advancing to the area, where they fell to nine-time state champions Bellville.
