CLIFTON, Texas (KWTX) - Baseball and softball fans in one small community are beaming over a million dollar plus donation which will turf the infields of baseball and softball fields from a youth league to the high school.

Stuart Parsons, owner of Parsons Roofing and owner of the new Parsons Sports Ranch in Clifton, is turfing the infields of seven fields for the Clifton Youth Baseball and Softball Association and the softball and baseball fields at Clifton High School.

Clifton Police Chief Chris Blanton is the president of the youth association and said the turf fields for his organization are huge.

“That’s a gamechanger for our league,” Blanton said. “It’s a gamechanger for any league, especially those that aren’t owned by any city.”

Parsons said he learned of the need from Blanton who works security at times at Parsons Sports Ranch.

“For Chris Blanton to come up to me and start talking about how it would impact those fields, the tournament, the town,” Parsons said. “It was just a win-win situation. It’s going to bring tournaments and it will bring people into Clifton and I’m just really excited.”

Blanton said the turf infields will lead to less mud, fewer rain-outs and less labor from his volunteer organization.

“We’re a volunteer organization so having our infields turfed takes a lot of work off our board but not only that, it will help because our league runs through, like most leagues do, during a very rainy season of the year,” Blanton said. “So, this is going to keep us from having to cancel a lot of games and from moving a lot of games.”

The work on all nine fields will start immediately.

Parsons’ work crews will do all the labor.

The Clifton High School baseball field will be renamed “Sue Parsons Field” after Stuart’s mom who passed away in 2005.

Parsons’ family goes back three generations in Bosque County.

He said helping the community was a no-brainer for him.

“Our hearts are in Bosque County. Our family has been here for a long time, and I think a lot of things have happened and it’s meant to be,” Stuart said.
