China Spring boy hits first over-the-fence home run at new Parsons Sports Ranch
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A 10-year-old boy is celebrating not only hitting his first over-the-fence homerun but also being the first player to do it at a new major sports venue in Central Texas.
Lawson Hunt, a fourth grader who is homeschooled in China Spring, hit the bomb at Parsons Sports Ranch in Clifton as his China Spring Cougs 10u team took on the Centex Bandits 10u.
“It was the first inning. I was up to bat, and I had two strikes on me and was just trying to get it into play, and I hit it solid and when I was running to first base, my dad said ‘let’s go!’ And then I realized I hit it over,” Lawson said.
Lawson rounded the bases and crossed the plate to hugs and cheers from his teammates.
The boy has been playing baseball since he was 5-years-old, his mom, Abbey said.

His dad, Jeff, got an up-close view of the homer as he’s an assistant coach on Lawson’s team which is head coached by Brad Minnix.
“I realized I hit it over and I was super excited and I got to home plate and my team and my dad were cheering me on,” Lawson said.
Lawson had no idea it was also the first bomb at Parsons Sports Ranch.
An employee at Parsons Ranch told Lawson the news during an on-field interview after the game.
“I don’t know if you know this but you are the first person ever to hit a homerun here at Parsons Ranch,” he said.
Lawson was then presented with a pair of Bruce Bolts batting gloves.
“It was super exciting,” Lawson said.
Lawson’s team went on to finish 2nd place in the tournament.
