Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 8.8.24
(KWTX) - Here’s this week’s restaurant report card for Central Texas:
Taqueria El Mexicano Grille #9 at 1420 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco failed a routine inspection with a 60 (40 demerits) and had to pay a penalty.
According to the food safety worker, the raw beef, barbacoa, tripe, beef, some pork carnitas, and pollo guisada were either old or not kept at the right temperature. They were thrown out.
To top it off, according to the report, the person in charge did not have adequate knowledge of good sanitation, correct food temperatures, and how to minimize contamination.
And an employee was wiping sweat and not washing their hands.
There were many more violations.
Snowflake Donuts at 105 South Wiebusch Street in Riesel failed a renewal inspection with an 83 (17 demerits).
According to the food safety worker, some diced, cooked potatoes in the cooler were 7 days too old and missing labels.
Some creams and prepared dough were not kept at the right temperature and the cooler went bad about 4 months ago among other issues.
Hokkaido Ramen & Sushi at 4300 West Waco Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 86 (14 demerits).
According to the food safety worker, some cooked beef and salmon fillets for sushi were not kept cool enough.
Also, some raw beef and pork were not kept at the right temp.
An employee did not properly wash their hands.
All of these spots needed reinspection.
And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to Lorena Cheese House at 102 East Center Street in Lorena.
According to the owner, she sells cheeses from her husband’s family farm.
Spicy, herbed, and aged.
The grilled cheese is a favorite.
There are four different soups and cheeses to choose from daily.
There are sides and you can polish your lunch off with a cupcake or other baked good.
If you want to take home, the shop has 25 to 45 different cheeses every day.
