Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 8.15.24
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Here’s this week’s restaurant report card for Central Texas:
The Rustic Grill at 816 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 74. (26 demerits)
There were a number of problems. The report was 4 pages long.
The food safety worker noted, the bacon wrapped items, brisket, chicken thighs. vegetables, sliced chicken, cream cheese, and shrimp; among other foods were not kept at the right temperature.
Two coolers could not maintain a safe temperature.
The employees were not washing their hands often enough, and there was black substance build-up on the ice machine.
Rositas Taqueria Restaurant at 301B La Salle Avenue in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 78. (22 demerits)
According to the food safety worker, some cleaned and sanitized containers had old food debris.
Items such as sour cream, potatoes, and fajitas were not kept at the right temperature.
There were flying insects.
The walk-in freezer door was missing, and the breaker kept kicking on, among other issues.
Salty Dog Bar and Grill at 2004 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 89. (11 demerits)
According to the food safety worker, the deflector in both the ice machines were dirty with a pink, black speckled substance.
There was no certified food manager present at the beginning of the inspection.
There was no sanitizer bucket anywhere in the kitchen, old, encrusted food on the equipment.
All of these places needed reinspections.
And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to La Nueva Michoacana at 1205 North 25th street in Waco.
This place is a dream if you need to curb that sweetooth.
It has popsicles, snow cones, ice cream—and mangonadas.
You can get just about any flavor and add fresh fruit.
And if you like mixing things up a bit... I think I saw nachos on the menu.
