WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Here’s this week’s Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas:

Los Cucos Mexican Cafe at 2805 West Loop 340 in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 76. (24-demerits)

According to the food safety worker, the sliced and diced tomatoes, scallops, crab meat, sea bass, cheddar cheese, lettuce, guacamole, cut chicken and beef, and the milk were not kept at the right temperature.

Some ready-to-eat cheese slices had blood drippings on them from the raw beef stored nearby.

All of that was thrown out.

The dishwasher did not get hot enough.

This place needed reinspection.

Popeye’s at 420 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco passed a re-inspection with a 90. (10-demerits).

According to the food safety worker, the whole place lacked hot water.

The employees could not adequately wash their hands.

That was later fixed.

Also, some food handlers needed to show proof of certification.

Walk-on’s Sports Bistreaux at 5601 Crosslake Parkway in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 94. (6-demerits)

According to the food safety worker, the cut strawberries, ranch, and two containers of cooked rice were thrown out because they may not have been the freshest.

One of the reach-in coolers did not maintain the right temperature, and all the coolers and other surfaces had old food debris on them.

This place needed reinspection.

And this week’s clean plate award goes to Goin2be at 110 North Pecan Street in Hico.

If you are ever in Hamilton County, stop by this a quaint restaurant and shop.

Our photographer, Bradley Vaughn had a ball during his visit.

This place has ice cream and smoothies, club sandwiches, frozen, hot, family, and keto, gluten-free meal options.

While you wait for your food, browse the shop for meats, maple syrups, sweets, even what it calls a “healthy option” for laundry detergent.

This place also has a little entertainment for you.

Open mic night is on the second and fourth Thursdays of September.

Grab a cool drink and see some cool cats.

Report Card” segments are gathered directly from the public records of regular inspections conducted by county health department officials in Central Texas. KWTX does not determine what locations are inspected and does not assign the overall scores which are reflected in percentages. Any questions regarding the status of an inspection, reinspection, or the score reported should be directed to the individual county health departments in which those businesses are located.
