Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 10.10.24

(KWTX) - Here’s this week’s Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas:

Roberto’s Taco Shop at 921 South 9th Street in Waco failed a routine inspection with an 82. (18 Demerits)

According to the food safety worker the tilapia was not kept to the right temperature, so it was thrown out.

There was a black substance on the ice machine deflector and no certified food manager on duty.

The container of cooked carnitas in the reach-in cooler did not have the proper use by date.

The business needed to stop storing wiping cloths between the rolled shredded meat tacos-- so they were thrown out.

Some boxes of limes-- bags of beans and poblano peppers-- were on the ground.

And-- tilapia thawing in a bucket of water.

There were other issues.

This place needed a re-inspection.

Papa Johns at 408 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco failed a reinspection with a 92 (8 Demerits) and was penalized.

According to the food safety worker, there were a couple of sanitizer buckets with no detectable sanitizer in it.

The certified food manager was not on duty.

There is a gap at the bottom of the back door.

This can allow pests to get inside.

There was a heavy accumulation of dust on the air-intake and vents throughout the facility.

Because of the repeat violations.

This place had to pay a 125-dollar reinspection fee.

Teriyaki Park Sushi at 220 South 2nd Street in Waco passed a renewal inspection with a 92. (8 Demerits)

According to the food safety worker, the eel sauce, spicy mayo, and Baylor sauces were missing labels.

Some foods such as the sashimi salmon and tuna we’re not kept at the right temperature.

They were thrown out.

One of the small coolers was not keeping its contents cool enough.

And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to King’s Chicken Wings LLC located Inside Union Hall at 720 Franklin Avenue in Waco.

It has a variety of flavors.

The Louisiana is nostalgic of Cajun country.

There is sweet and tangy teriyaki and a whole lot more.

And FYI, there is a wing of the week.

This week it’s Pumpkin Spice.

And try the banana pudding.
