(KWTX) - Here’s this week’s Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas:

Saltgrass Steakhouse at 5600 Legend Lake Parkway in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 87. (13 Demerits)

According to the food safety worker, the quail and beef patties were not kept at the right temperature.

The manager threw the quail away.

The beef patties were cooled.

An employee was preparing cream gravy and not using approved methods.

The crew needed to clean and sanitize some forks, plastic containers, and plates that were dirty.

There were some squeeze bottles with missing labels.

This place needed a reinspection.

Valle’s Mexican Restaurant & Bar LLC at 900 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 85. (15 Demerits)

According to the food safety worker, there was a half-full bucket of wastewater at one hand sink, and soap missing at the hand sink at the bar.

There was heavy rust on the shelves in the walk-in cooler, grease build-up, rust, dust, and build-up in other places.

Even the kitchen ceiling panels needed to be cleaned.

This place needed a reinspection.

King Noodle at 1230 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 88 (12 Demerits) even though the city’s website said it passed.

According to the food safety worker, it needed a reinspection because the walk-in cooler wasn’t cooling properly.

That’s a concerning violation.

Some cooked peanut sauce, ground beef, cut beef, chicken and cooked mushrooms were not kept at the right temperature. The automatic chlorine dishwasher did not have any sanitizer. The cooks at the line washed their hands while wearing gloves and then continued to cook.

There were two opened cans of oyster sauce stored on the dry goods shelves without any protective covering and two bags of onions on the ground. Also, the business needed to discontinue using hanging fly traps in the kitchen.

And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to Restaurant La Fe at 401 Lake Air Drive in Waco.

If you plan to stop by, it is off the beaten path, tucked away in a strip mall off the main road.

This restaurant has all your favorites. It’s a mom-and-pop shop serving authentic Mexican cuisine.
