(KWTX) - Here’s this week’s Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas:
Bush’s Chicken at 3505 North 19th Street in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 80. (20 demerits)
According to the food safety worker, the mashed potatoes were lying under the heat lamp for an unknown amount of time. They were thrown out. There was an unknown black substance on the deflector of 2 ice machines.
The sanitizer in the sink was too strong and the sink needed a proper air gap to prevent backflow.
There were flying insects near the ice machine and swatters hanging in the kitchen.
There were soiled, damp wiping cloths not stored properly among other issues.
The Ranchito #5 at 2310 West Waco Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 82. (18 demerits)
According to the food safety workers, some foods were not kept at the right temperature. They were relocated for cooling, and others had to be reheated.
Also, multiple workers serving food didn’t properly wash their hands and some were wearing jewelry and long, fake nails.
There was a yellow-like unknown liquid and transparent liquid in a spray bottle without labels.
Also, the business was using a shopping bag to hold the cooked tortillas and the rice. Because of the priority violations, this place had to pay a reinspection fee.
Taqueria La Chona #1 at 2025 Proctor Avenue in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 87. (13 demerits)
According to the food safety worker, the sanitizer in the sink was too strong.
The business did not adequately get rid of its wastewater.
And the microwave was soiled with food debris.
All of these places needed a reinspection.

This week’s Clean Plate award goes to D & J Seafood & Fried Chicken at 820 East Waco Drive in Waco.
According to DoorDash, the most ordered items on this menu are the fried short rib basket, the 3-piece fried chicken and fries, and the 2 fish and 6 shrimp.
Some of the dishes even have fried rice.
For sides, try the egg rolls and fried corn nuggets and don’t forget your dipping sauce.
