Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 1.23.25
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Here’s this week’s Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas:
Sugar Spice at 907 North Hewitt Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 76. (24 Demerits)
According to the food safety worker, the strawberries, cut mango and the cooked and raw brisket were thrown out because they weren’t kept at the right temperature.
The owner says the workers would sanitize the wares without rinsing them.
There was medication stored on a shelf above the food. Toxic substances are supposed to be properly stored among other issues.
Bush’s Chicken at 1425 North New Road in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 83. (17 Demerits)
According to the food safety worker, the following foods were not kept at the right temperature: the shredded cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, fried chicken livers, tender rolls, slow cooker- baked chicken and mashed potatoes.
They were thrown out.
There is an unknown black residue on the deflector of an ice machine.
Also, some equipment meant to keep certain food hot and other cold were not working properly.
There were other issues.
Cathay House at 825 Wooded Acres Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 86. (14 Demerits)
According to the food safety worker, some egg rolls were thrown out because of time-temperature logging and labels issues.
There was a mold-like substance on the ice deflector, unlabeled chemical spray bottle, and cracked or broken plates and bowls.
Some were repeat violations.
All these places needed reinspection.
And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to Moroso Wood Fired Pizzeria at 4700 Bosque Boulevard in Waco.
Can you say, Neapolitan wood-fired pizza, Italian pasta, Italian appetizers, bruschetta, arancini (which is a stuffed Italian rice ball stuffed, coated with breadcrumbs and then deep fried) and dessert.
Cannoli. Need I say more.
