Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 4.24.25
(KWTX) - Here’s this week’s Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas:
Cajun Crabs at 901 North Loop 340 in Bellmead failed a renewal inspection with a 70. (30 demerits)
According to the food safety worker, some raw bacon and shrimp were not stored properly. There were flying insects in direct contact with the clean plates and onions.
Black mold-like substance on the ice machine deflector and sanitizer that was too strong.
Tartar sauce was stored more than 24 hours.
A bottle of pink liquid and then a bottle of purple liquid stored near the alcohol bottles at the bar.
There was rusty kitchen equipment, worn out surfaces, flying insects.
There were other issues.
Pei Wei Express at 6001 West Waco drive in the Richland Mall in Waco failed a reinspection with a 78. (22 demerits)
According to the food safety worker, some sliced mushrooms, chives, broccoli, zucchini, chopped cabbage, carrots, and green beans were not kept at the right temperature. They were thrown out.
Some raw shrimp and chicken were not stored properly. There was an unlabeled plastic bottle with a clear liquid.
Crusted food debris on the can opener. Because of the repeat violations, this place had to pay a re-inspection fee.
The Grape at 2006 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 79. (21 demerits)
According to the food safety worker, several items held past 7 days with no label were discarded. The business needed an adequate air gap for the 3-compartments sink. There was old, encrusted food debris on the stove, plus other violations.
This place needed a reinspection.
And “Chicken, chicken, chicken, what combo are you pick’in?” If you’ve been to our Clean Plate winner’s restaurant, you likely are familiar with that phrase.
Raising Canes on Jack Kultgen Expressway in Waco scored a perfect 100 on its food inspection.
You can choose from a number of baskets with 3—4—6 crispy—yet juicy tenders.
The baskets come with fries and that Texas toast. Ask for the special sauce.
Sandwich and kids’ combos are also a crowd pleaser.
Oh… and the business often helps the community raise funds for non-profits
Good food and good deeds.
