(KWTX) - Here is the Restaurant Report Card for May 22, 2025:

Pizza House/Gerik’s Bakery at 505 West Oak Street in West failed a renewal inspection with a score if 54 that included 46 demerits!

According to the food safety report, some of the more serious violations include a container of refried beans was sitting out on the counter that needed to be reheated, the bacon bits, Canadian bacon, sliced pepperoni, and sliced mushrooms we’re not kept at the right temperature.

They were thrown out along with some sausage, sausage and jalapeno, and the breakfast sausage kolaches.

There was also a black mold-like substance in the ice at the back of the ice machine and on the deflector.

There were many more violations and this place needed every inspection.

Los Compadres Bar and Grill at 1516 North IH-35 in Lacy Lakeview failed inspection prompted by a complaint with a score of 70, including 30 demerits.

According to the report, this place had such serious violations that it was shut down temporarily and charged a reinspection fee.

Some of the more concerning violations include food not being kept to the right temperature. It noted the shredded cheese, sour cream sauce, sliced tomatoes, raw beef, raw chicken, ceviche, cooked pork, and some raw bacon.

There were also other cooked foods that weren’t kept to the right temperature. These items were thrown out.

Some of the cooling equipment could not maintain the proper temperature. This place needed a reinspection.

The Whataburger at 2442 Creekview Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection. While it received a score of 87, it was failed as a result of receiving 13 demerits.

According to the food safety worker, there was a black mold-like substance on the sanitizer shelf near one of the sinks.

There was brown food residue on the table.

Also, some items that were not kept at the right temperature were moved for a rapid chill. This place also needed a reinspection.

And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to Let’s Eat Texas in historic downtown Killeen at 207 East Avenue D.

This place does so much. It was voted among “the best local food” in the city.

If you need a bite before work, you can grab a breakfast veggie skillet or cucumber avocado toast. The kids can opt for the dollar size pancakes. There are also lunch or dinner items by the day.

Catfish Fridays sound good.

You can enjoy adult beverages.

Did I mention this place offers private cooking classes, event catering, and it says it’s healthy. The business’ website says it proudly supports local farms and serves meals made from fresh ingredients.
