Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 6.20.25
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Here is this week’s Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas:
El Norteño Mexican Restaurant at 7896 North Highway 6 in Woodway failed a renewal inspection with a 70, including 30 demerits, and was penalized.
According to the food safety report, this restaurant was shut down until the violations that could make someone sick were corrected.
The chorizo, ground beef, raw shell eggs, house-made enchilada sauce, shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sliced ham, butter, half-and-half, and refried beans were not kept at the right temperature and were thrown out.
Multiple containers that were supposed to be clean had old residue.
The facility did not have adequate refrigeration at the time of the inspection.
This place needed a re-inspection.

Portofino at 725 Austin Avenue in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 79, including 21 demerits.
According to the food safety worker, the ice machine had mold-like growth. There were household pest control products but this business is required to use commercial pest control.
The business was cleaning the indoor grease trap during operating hours. This should be done when the business is closed.
The floors and walls had soil build-up, food debris, and a white powdery substance that needed to be cleaned.

Slim Chickens at 5804 Bosque Boulevard in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 85, including 15 demerits.
According to the food safety worker, the parmesan cheese, house-made ranch, chipotle ranch, and slim sauce, the raw chicken bites, chocolate pudding, and sliced strawberries were not kept to the right temperature.
The potato salad was thrown out because it had an old use-by-date.
There were rusty deteriorating shelves in the reach-in cooler.
There was yellow food debris inside the microwave, black debris accumulating on the ceiling of the walk-in cooler, brown, sticky residue, and a puddle of standing water.
This place needed a reinspection.

And the Clean Plate award goes to Joe’s Pizza & Pasta #2 at 1407 South 31st, Suite A in Temple.
This spot has a variety of pizzas including gluten free and cauliflower.
Check out the Tuscany pizza. The Albani pizza, some with pesto sauce and sauteed spinach, sundried tomatoes, and artichoke hearts.
While you’re waiting for your main dish, try the cheddar pops, focaccia bread, or fried calamari.
