Restaurant Report Card for Waco and Central Texas: 7.3.25
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Here is this week’s restaurant report card for Central Texas:
George’s Restaurant & Bar #2 at 1201 Hewitt Drive in Waco failed a routine inspection with a 73 and was penalized with 27 demerits.
According to the food safety worker, some raw beef patties, turkey, marinated raw pork, baked potatoes, pork chops, cooked pasta, coleslaw, and cut melon were not kept at the right temperature.
Some clean pans that were stored as clean had excessive flaking, black buildup.
Some food items had to be thrown out because of the way they were preserved.
Some frozen food items were stored on the floor in the walk-in freezer.
There were fly traps located directly above an opened food preparation area.
And black, sticky residue behind the 3 compartments sank.
There were other violations.
The owner told KWTX the restaurant has fixed most of the violations. It has gone through an extensive capital improvement project, and currently is finishing one to address other issues.

Helados La Azteca at 1500 Colcord Avenue in Waco failed a routine inspection with a 73 and was penalized with 27 demerits.
According to the food safety worker, the sliced fruit, the strawberries, watermelon, cucumber, and mango, were not kept at the right temperature.
There were also some candies that were not properly labeled.
They were removed from the sales floor.
There was a black, mold-like substance inside the ice machine.
The employees were not properly washing their hands.
There were numerous other issues here.
This place needed a reinspection.

The Olive Branch at 215 South 2nd Street in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 77 and received 23 demerits.
According to the food safety report, the biggest issues here were food in the display case, along with butter in the bakery, and food in the cooler had to be thrown out.
Apparently, the way the business preserves food is not approved by the health department.

Maria Mezcaleria at 724 Austin Avenue in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 80 and was penalized with 20 demerits.
According to the food safety worker, some raw shrimp was not thawing properly.
Some pans that were stacked as clean had old sticker residue on them.
The sanitizer bucket did not have the right amount of sanitizer.
And there was no certified food manager on duty during the inspection.
