WACO, Texas (KWTX) - We’re serving up a new menu with this week’s Restaurant Report to focus on new eateries opening their doors and kitchens in Central Texas.

Are you in the mood for a chili cheese dog? Wienerschnitzel opened this week near Franklin Avenue at 305 South Valley Mills Drive.

A Baylor graduate who has other successful eateries in Waco operates this new location.

From a Bear to a family of Aggies, a new Layne’s Chicken Fingers will open at 404 North Key Avenue in Lampasas next week.

This is in the old Burger King location.

The Khan family of second-generation immigrants said while in school at Texas A&M, they were drawn to the original location in College Station because of its halal menu items.

The business will host a soft opening on Dec. 10. The restaurant is fully open on Dec. 13.

Meanwhile, diners said goodbye to Sacsee’s Southern Eatery. The business posted on Facebook earlier this week that it is closing.

For 11 years, the business has been the go-to spot for folks after church on Sundays and those looking for the taste of home cooking.

Among the favorites were collard greens, smothered pork chops, fried chicken and familiar desserts.

The restaurant was also featured in 2020 on the popular television show “Texas Bucket List.”

If you still crave Sacsee’s, the business said it plans to shift its focus to catering.
