WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Three Midway High School seniors are now National Merit Semi-Finalists, placing them among the top 1% nationwide.

Zoe Betancis, Lily Lu, and Kennedy Williams earned the honor through PSAT scores, academic leadership, and community involvement.

They’re not just academic stars they’re student leaders, athletes, artists, and volunteers.

The Temple Highlighters Jazz Band has earned National Recognition as a National winner in the Mark of Excellence’s National Jazz Honors project.

Out of 478 entries from across the country, the Highlighters were one of only three high school bands to receive this prestigious honor.

The Highlighters have a rich history as the oldest High School jazz band in Texas, dating back to the 1950s.

It’s the fifth time they’ve earned the top honor.

Congratulations.

Central Texas College Fine Arts faculty member Donna Kennedy recently debuted her new album at a free concert.

This event also featured CTC music student Aaron Richardson, who performed live and contributed to the album.

Their collaboration highlights how CTC professors actively working in their fields give students real-world experience and valuable mentorship.
