MCGREGOR, Texas — Two local high school marching bands are advancing to area competition after earning top scores at regional contests.

McGregor High School’s marching band scored straight ones at the UIL Region Contest and will compete at the Area D competition Saturday.

The Pride of Cove earned straight ones at the UIL Region 8 Marching Contest on Oct. 18 and is headed to the Area Competition Saturday in Round Rock.

Temple College is celebrating one of its educators as biology professor Chad Cryer has been named the Barnhart Outstanding Teacher of the Year. Officials said Cryer impresses students with creativity, care and even guitar serenades in class.
