Cameron Park Zoo expecting orangutan baby, local schools earn theater honors
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Cameron Park Zoo is celebrating some exciting news as orangutan Mae and dad KJ are expecting a baby in January.
To mark the occasion, the zoo is hosting a baby shower Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. The public is invited to join the celebration and help welcome the zoo’s newest addition.
Theater programs earn state recognition
Killeen ISD is celebrating two top theater programs. Chaparral High School’s Bobcat Drama and Union Grove Middle School were both named Texas Educational Theater Association Exemplary Campuses of Distinction for 2025.
Officials said the honor recognized rigorous curriculum, strong public performances and a commitment to expanding student opportunities. Chaparral earned the title for a second year while Union Grove advanced after last year’s outstanding rating.
Troy band finishes in top 10 at state
The Troy Trojans marching band finished 10th in the 3A state finals against roughly 230 Texas schools.
