Miss SPJST is fighting to end hunger across Texas
In SPJST, Paetyn Beckendorf must research, plan, and lead an original service project throughout the year
RIESEl, Texas (KWTX) - An incredible day on Friday -- 2025 Food for Families is in the history books.
Totals show this year, nearly 2 million pounds were collected.
Throughout the day, KWTX stopped in various pantries and talked with people as they shared their personal stories on the impact of food for families.
In Riesel, one young person is on a mission to help fight hunger across Texas.
Miss SPJST Paetyn Beckendorf volunteered at the 5 Loaves and 2 Fish Food Pantry - taking part in the largest one-day food drive in Texas.
However, the work doesn’t just stop there. Peyton is supporting this mission to fight hunger through her year-long royalty service project.
In the program, Paetyn must research, plan, and lead an original service project and track her hours, donations, and community engagement throughout the year.
Volunteering at the Riesel food pantry was a full circle moment for her.
“I worked in this specific pantry as a seventh and eighth grader and I noticed how many families actually came through the food drive so when I had the chance to make it our mission and help more than just the people in my community, I took that chance,” she said.
The efforts at the food pantry along with Paetyn’s undertaking are showing in numbers; the 5 Loaves and 2 Fish Pantry raised more than 25,500 pounds for Food for Families.
Paetyn will continue fighting to end hunger in the state while also potentially receiving a scholarship to fund future academics.
