McGregor, Texas (KWTX) - McGregor senior Addy Todd is a competitor on the field and in the classroom.

“I love competition, so I treat the classroom like it’s a game,” said Todd.

“I’m currently ranked number four in my class. My parents are also a big help with that. They’ve always pushed me to be the best I can be in any field.”

The McGregor coaches have taken note of Addy’s competitive nature as well.

“No matter what she does whether it’s volleyball, softball, track, cheer, she’s going to go out there and she wants to be the best,” said head basketball coach Ellie Bowers.

“She just has that hard working attitude where she is asking for other reps. She wants to stay in the gym and shoot. She wants to come up and do those extra things to make herself and her team better.”

Those extra reps helped lead the McGregor girls basketball team back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016-17 season. A feat the McGregor softball team is hoping to accomplish as well as the team hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2016.

“I think she’s going to contribute a lot,” said head softball coach Estrella Guardiola.

“She’s a leader. She’s very vocal. She’s loud. Her voice travels. So I think she’s going to be a huge asset to our program.”

Addy will take that leadership to UMHB where she plans to play softball and study nursing.

“UMHB has always had a wonderful nursing program and it’s close to home,” said Todd.

“I had gone on a visit and I loved it. I loved the coaches. I loved facilities. I looked at their nursing program and I was in awe at their technology.”

Right now she’s focused leading McGregor softball back to the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade.

“This group of girls that we have, we all have played together for a while,” said Todd.

“And I think if we can all work together, we can do this.”
