Classroom Champions: Salado’s Anna Redelsheimer
SALADO, Texas (KWTX) - Salado senior Anna Redelsheimer has worked hard in pushing herself to be the best runner she could possibly be.
“I was not the best at it, initially,” said Redelsheimer. “It was actually kind of a running joke. When I was in seventh grade, I would always be one place away from that medal. So if they gave out 10 medals at a meet, I was 11th. If they gave out 15, I was 16th. I kind of broke that streak once I was in high school and I started getting those medals, but for the first year, that was the joke of the team.”
The hard work eventually paid off. In her four cross country seasons at Salado, she didn’t miss a single state meet. She also helped her team reach the podium at state for the first time in program history, placing third place at state in each of the last two years.
“Running and school are kind of similar to some extent,” said Redelsheimer. “At the end of the day if you have a task, you just got to tackle it on. It might not be the most fun, like running or school, but you just have to sit down and do it most of the time.”
“She’s very driven, very goal-oriented,” said Salado cross country coach Corey Baird. “When she sets her mind to something, she’s going to do what it takes to achieve it.”
Anna is on track to graduate as class salutatorian. She’s already been accepted to prestigious schools all across the country, including the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
“I’ve always been more of an analytical person in school,” said Redelsheimer. “I enjoyed computer science classes, semi-enjoyed calculus and math. I just find myself less on the creative side and more on the analysis side, so I just thought that aligns with what I’m best at.”
Before she heads off to college in the fall, she hopes to continue to be a role model to younger girls in Salado.
“I still have so many younger friends on the cross country teams and just in Salado in general,” said Redelsheimer. “So I hope they’ll miss me next year because I certainly will miss them.”
“All the girls, the younger girls, underclassmen, are feeling like they matter,” said Baird. “She goes out of her way to make sure that they know that.”
Congratulations to Anna Redelsheimer, you’re a Classroom Champion!
