Classroom Champions: Goldthwaite’s Luke Sanderson
GOLDTHWAITE, Texas (KWTX) - High school has flown by for Goldthwaite senior Luke Sanderson.
“It felt like yesterday, I was getting “he’s a freshman” chants and now all of the sudden, I’m graduating,” said Sanderson.
The All-State football player and basketball District MVP will leave behind a very storied prep career in Goldthwaite.
Sanderson notably reached 2,000 career points earlier this basketball season. He also made the “shot heard around Goldthwaite” after hitting a game-winning three pointer against Mumford in the fourth round of the playoffs.
“As soon as I made it, there was no nonchalant act to me,” said Sanderson. “I immediately jumped into the air like a little girl, I was so excited. I had people, anytime they saw me, they asked ‘how did it feel, what was it like.’ That lasted for a few weeks after the fact.”
Next fall, Sanderson will take his talents to Clarendon College and join the basketball team.
“I knew that as long as I could get in front of coaches and get a chance to play on the team, I could play at the next level,” said Sanderson. “They’re gonna be getting someone who gives 110% on every play. I’m the smallest guy on the court, my energy and effort always need to be at the top level because I can’t afford to take a play off.”
Sanderson is also set to graduate seventh in his senior class. He plans on one day becoming an athletic trainer.
“I’m just a kid that is always gonna give you their all,” said Sanderson. “That’s how I want to be remembered.”
Congratulations to Luke Sanderson, you’re a Classroom Champion!
