WEST, Texas (KWTX) - Senior year has been one rocky road for West track and field standout Coy Klish.

“It’s just been like a roller coaster, really,” said Klish. “Football was going great and then I was just set back so badly.”

This past October, Klish tore his ACL playing football. The future of his athletic career became uncertain.

“We saw the doctor the next morning and he was like ‘Don’t even think about football,’” said Klish. “We were asking about track and he was like ‘I wouldn’t get your hopes up.’”

Since his surgery in November, Klish has already made a full recovery. Matter of fact, Klish qualified for the state track meet after running a blazing 10.63 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

While it took hard work and determination, Klish says his faith is what got him there.

“The biggest part is keeping my faith and keeping God first in everything I do,” said Klish. “I think that’s helped me a lot. Just having support from everyone in this school, like all the coaches and people closest to me, it’s a huge part of it.”

Klish is ranked ninth in his senior class with a 4.8 GPA and aspires to become a firefighter. He plans on running track at Angelo State University but until then, Klish has some unfinished business to take care of at the state track meet.

“It’s huge for me, I’m just super excited and I’m just super excited to be back there,” said Klish. “I just want to thank God and tell people to put their faith in Him because I don’t know where I’d be without that. I think it’s a huge part of what I’m doing right now.”

Congratulations to Coy Klish, you’re a Classroom Champion!
