WACO, Texas (KWTX) - La Vega senior Alaysia Gude took advantage of every opportunity during her high school career.

“I’m gonna miss my classmates, coaches, you know, even teachers and even the staff,” said Gude. “This is just a good culture to be a part of.”

Since her freshman year, Gude has been a part of the “juggernaut” La Vega girl’s basketball team that won back to back state championships. Her head coach Marcus Willis said she was a crucial part of their dominance over the last four years.

“If she’s not a part of each part of those state championship runs, we don’t win them,” said Willis. “This is one of those glue kids. She does everything right, she tries to make sure that she’s at the right spot at the right times. She’s one of the most coachable kids that I’ve had a chance to coach. That’s something that goes a long way with me and it’s also gonna go a long way with her too.”

Gude has worked her way up to being named District MVP and even a McDonald’s All American honorable mention. Over the next few weeks, she’ll be deciding on where she’ll get to play Division I basketball.

“I didn’t know that I would be able to play Division I because of my height and size,” said Gude. “But the people I competed against were D-1 athletes , so I was like ‘if they can do it, I can do it,’ so you know, it just gave me some mentality.”

The future nurse is also ranked 20th in her senior class and has a 4.0 GPA. Gude wants to be remembered for her energy.

“They called me the spark. I used to come in and give them some kind of energy,” said Gude. “I want them to remember that and just always work hard.”

“I think she left her mark here at La Vega and I think she also left her mark on these younger generation kids coming with me next year,” said Willis.

Congratulations to Alaysia Gude, you’re a Classroom Champion!
